The Differences Between Copaiba and CBD Oil!

Since doTERRA released Copaiba Essential oil to the market in September 2017 I often get asked how it differs from CBD oil. There is a lot of controversy surrounding Cannabis, Medicinal Marijuana, CBD Oil and THC containing products. Firstly you need to understand how each product works and what it does then you can make an informed decision as to what is going to work best for you.

Cannabinoids

So lets firstly look at Cannabinoids! They are chemical compounds and they can affect one or both cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2 receptors) in the body.

Equally some cannabinoids are legal such as CBD and those found in essential oils and others like THC from Cannabis and Marijuana are not unless of course you can be prescribed Medicinal Marijuana.

The Three Types of Cannabinoids

CBD is short for CannaBiDiol, and is a biochemical constituent of Cannabis and Hemp plants. CBD made from Hemp plants is actually weaker (2-4%) than CBD made from Cannabis (5-30%) and all CBD extractions contain some amount of
THC. THC is the part of the plant that gives you the natural high! Some CBD products contain a low enough % of THC that they are legal in Australia.

So what are the benefits of CBD I hear you ask?

They include but are not limited to pain relief, anxiety reduction, cancer treatment and prevention, seizure treatment, any neurological issues, lowers insulin and promotes cardiovascular health.

THC is short for TetraHydroCannibinol, and is also a biochemical constituent of the Cannabis plant. THC is the part of the plant that gives people the natural high when they are using THC products or when inhaling the smoke. THC resembles
Anandamide which is a chemical produced by the brain in the body and is responsible for regulating our appetite, memory, mood and sleep. When people use THC they get the “Munchies” or the need to eat, and relaxes them.

BCP is short for Beta-caryophyllene, and is found in doTERRA’s Essential Oil Copaiba. The oil has been tested to have 60% BCP which is a very high amount compared to CBD products having 2-30%. BCP is a different type of Cannabinoid to CBD but it still directly affects the same CB2 receptors.

You will also find BCP in essential oils such as Melissa and Black Pepper just in much smaller amounts.

What are cannabinoid receptors?

Cannabinoid receptors can be found all over the body in the brain, organs, glands, tissues and immune cells and their main purpose is to bring the body into balance or homeostasis. CB1 and CB2 are the two different types of cannabinoid
receptors.

CB1 receptors can be found in the central nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands and organs. On the other hand the CB2 receptors are found in the immune system and structures. Tissues can sometimes have CB1 and CB2
receptors.

CB1 receptors interact with THC to cause the psychoactive effects whereas the CB2 receptors do not cause psychoactive effects. CBD oil and Copaiba Essential Oil targets the CB2 receptors. CBD oil interacts indirectly with the CB2 receptors
unlike Copaiba Essential Oil which interacts directly with the CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are found mostly in the Immune System and there for the CB2 receptors improve immunity, reduce inflammation and relieve certain types of
pain.

To summarise, CBD versus Copaiba Oil I would say THC comes from the cannabis or hemp plants with Cannabis being illegal for recreational use in Australia. CBD Oil from Hemp contains only trace amounts of THC and is legal in Australia. CBD oil does not make you high. CBD oil helps neurological issues, pain and much more by indirectly interacting with CB2 receptors in the body mostly in the immune system.

Copaiba and BCP contain B-caryophyllene which is a cannabinoid found in very high levels in doTERRA’s Copaiba oil. It interacts directly with the CB2 receptors in the body which helps to improve the bodies immune system, reduces
inflammation in the body (inflammation leads to disease) and relieves certain types of pain.
